Jamal Pumuram is a young British Ismaili racing driver and one of only a handful of Ismaili athletes competing professionally in karting worldwide. His journey was recently highlighted by the Ismaili Global Talent Institute, recognising him as one of the community’s rising motorsport talents. (Read the feature)
From the Midlands in the UK, Jamal has quickly become known as one of the country’s most exciting young drivers. He first discovered karting at the age of nine during a birthday party, a moment that revealed a natural gift for speed, racecraft, and vehicle control. Just two years later, at age 11, he became the Midland Karting Champion, marking the beginning of a remarkable competitive career.
Today, Jamal races in the Daniel Ricciardo Series, an elite UK championship backed by Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo, designed to give young drivers a clear and competitive pathway into motorsport. He also competes as an owner‑driver with Jack Dex Racing, joining the professional team in 2026 under the guidance of world champion Jack Dex. With them, he races at national events and competes in the British Karting Championship, one of the most prestigious junior series in the country.
Jamal lives with ADHD, and motorsport has become a powerful channel for focus, discipline, and growth. The structure of race preparation, the precision of driving, and the instant feedback of lap times have helped him turn hyperfocus into a competitive advantage. As Jamal often says, “I’m always thinking about how to win, when to overtake, how to defend, and the smart things I need to do in a race — because it’s not just about speed.”
His dream is clear: to continue rising through the ranks of motorsport and one day compete at the highest level.

Jamal’s coach says it best: his success comes from a level of laser focus that borders on relentless. In the final two races of the Midland Karting Championship both in torrential, unforgiving rain Jamal locked in with a sharpness that never wavered. While others battled the conditions, he treated the storm like background noise. He had one thing on his mind: winning. Nothing else was acceptable. That unwavering drive, that ability to shut out the world and commit fully to the moment, is exactly what carried him to the championship title.
MENTALITY
Jamal’s mentality is as intense as his driving. Living with ADHD gives him a kind of tunnel‑vision determination that most racers never experience, when he locks onto a goal, he doesn’t just aim for first place, he believes it’s the only place he belongs. His coach often says Jamal simply doesn’t understand the idea that coming second is “good enough,” and while that mindset can be challenging on the rare days things don’t go his way, it’s also the engine behind his extraordinary drive. That refusal to settle, that relentless push to be better every lap, fuels a level of focus and determination that borders on unbelievable.
FEARLESSNESS
Jamal’s fearlessness is one of the defining traits of his racing DNA. He doesn’t flinch, hesitate, or second‑guess what’s in front of him; he commits. When he’s chasing down the kart ahead, he’ll sit just millimetres off their rear bumper, applying pressure with a confidence that unsettles even the most experienced drivers. It’s not aggression, it’s precision, control, and an unshakeable belief in his own ability. That willingness to push right to the edge, to stay glued to the leader until the perfect moment opens up, is exactly what sets him apart from the rest of the grid.
